Legacy Planning
Estate Planning
As a holistic estate planner and someone who understands that this subject can be dark - I don't dwell on the absence aspect of things; we're setting up a vehicle like a business that's meant to take care of you and your family long term. I firmly believe that your estate plan needs to be uniquely you from the planning and intentionality phase we'll start with to the cover art I place on your estate plan and even to the legacy preservation choice you may wish to make.
When you think of estate planning you think of wills and trusts. Why wouldn't you? The Last Will and Testament shows up in popular culture and you hear people talk about how you need a will.
The world of trusts and wills can be as flexible or as restrictive as you need it to be. When you're planning out your long term legacy through your estate you can leverage the court and the probate system through a will or you can avoid probate altogether and use a trust to achieve specific purposes. Both of these documents will get you where you need to be with separate advantages and disadvantages.
Available trusts include both revocable living trusts and more advanced planning with irrevocable trusts.
We will work together to find out what the right fit is for your budget, your estate, and your needs. At the heart of every estate plan is a goal and the will and trust is the ultimate manifestation of that goal.
I call these my core contingency documents. The Power of Attorney and the Advanced Medical Directive (Or Living Will if you prefer) are excellent documents to have in place for anyone eighteen (18) or older. They enable someone you choose along parameters you set to make decisions for you if you're not able to.
Whether you're setting off to college or have long left that age behind you these documents answer the simple question of "What happens if I have to rely on someone else to pick up where I left off?"
The Power of Attorney covers down on all legal aspects of your life - paying bills, exercising legal rights, dealing with those annoying phone reps, banking, etc...
The Advanced Medical Directive (Or Living Will if you'd like) covers down on medical decisions and informs the world of what your wishes and limits are. They also can give boundaries as to what your authorized agent can and can't take liberties with.
This is what separates me from other practices. Any template, whether from a law firm or a retailer, can move your stuff, drop things into boilerplate language, and move on with your life. My focus is on ensuring that your estate plan is uniquely you and that means capturing your legacy.
Remove the uncertainty and angst that comes with estate planning by laying things out in clarity for your family. We'll accomplish that in three ways.
The first is that my package plans include memorial service planning and elections. This ensures that your family isn't worried about how best to honor your memory, you will have told them and made it very clear for them.
The second is that my legacy elite offering (And any other offering for an added fee) includes a sit-down with your chosen designees and beneficiaries either via Zoom or at a location of your choosing to discuss what is in your plan, how it works, and the intent behind it. This ensures that everyone is on the same page as to the who, the what, and the why and how best to address challenges as they arise.
Lastly, I offer legacy riders to pass down your memories and lessons to future generations. The number one thing that will be missed about you is not your 401k or the family home, it will be your voice, those Christmas recipes, and the notes in cards you've sent (I know it's what I miss about my grandparents). I happily integrate memory and legacy preservation products into my estate practice because you deserve not only to lock down transfers, but to endure.
70% of the population doesn't have an estate plan at all and 30% of the population believes that the government has their best interests at heart. That tells me that a significant chunk of the population is living out of tune with their reasoning.
Let's fix that.
I offer package solutions to bring down price and increase your peace of mind. All estate plans come with consults, planning sessions, and a comprehensive walk through how to achieve your goals with the engagement.
For my clients looking for wills and trusts, we'll do a deep dive into your assets and how best to protect them, leverage them, and if needed, people who can help you get the most out of them. All roads lead to, through, and by you, so we take this walk together.
Clients are requested to provide all necessary witnesses for document execution. Notarization and execution can be done at a client's leisure on their own or a notary can be coordinated for execution around a client's preferences.
Consultations are subject to a $200.00 creditable (if retained) fee. Consultation is not a guarantee of engagement.
